updates available unauthenticated! May allow malicious user

Postby shotttgun » Thu Apr 05, 2007 9:12 pm

I went to install some packages today but I received warnings on all of them that they were all unauthenticated and may allow a malicious individual to take over my machine.
I froze until I check this out.
Tonight I recieved updates available. All ten were unauthenticated with the same warning about malicious individual.

What is the deal can none of the software be authenticated? How can linux be safer if all of the software and updates are a risk to install????

I'm concerned here. How can I trust linux?

A good newbie question.
This is due to that some repositories are unauthenticated. As long as you only use the ones included from the beginning, and some that you may have been encouraged to add in an answer (at least by the senior members) in this forum you are safe.
It's a bit like when you get a warning in Windows that a driver is not certified by Micro$oft
Don't fix it if it ain't broken, don't break it if you can't fix it
