Thats what I heard as well but I guess having a newer version of flash is nice for sites that require newer version of it. I just wonder will we it be available in the Mint Update anytime soon? Either way I cant wait until Flash is dead.

Good news boys, FF49 has been released on the ubuntu xenial-updates channel. The widevine CDM/ECE is included when you do: preferences -> content -> play DRM content. I just tested amazon video and it's working nicely. No more need for Chrome. :D Although I'm busy with other things atm, there's probably bugs but it'll all be sorted probably by the time The Grand Tour comes out :D

Obviously this goes against the pure Debian philosophy of "basically no DRM stuff" so I'm assuming the ECE-free version of FF will be installed by default on Debian vanilla I'm guessing. (Last time I checked they were using the ESR version.)

Mint's version of FF49 just came out today. If you updated, it should replace the xenial version pretty seamlessly with all your bookmarks and extensions intact.

I've already noticed on some sites like nbcnews, the site prompts you to "turn on" DRM content with a top bar. I haven't experimented with this yet until I understand what the module can access and what it does in terms of being relatively restricted.

@xenopeek, it may be a good idea to keep track of your links here. It went to go looking for an update and it appears that another 23 beta has been released (13 October) as the site is serving up a new hash. I can't tell the difference because both still list as version "23.0 d0" and there's only a small file size change. http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer.html is probably the site to bookmark until 23 "release version" appears on the main download site.

Looks like Mozilla will integrate PPAPI after all, in what they're calling "Project Mortar." And, it looks like they're extending regular NPAPI flash beyond March of next year, probably because I reckon' Mortar won't be finished by then. FF 52 ESR will hold onto extended support for a year later. Schedule here and more info here.

24 beta is out and comes with installation instructions this time and additional goodies like flash-player-properties. @xenopeek, looks like you'll need to change your download links. Again, the updated links are here: http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/flashplayer.html (be sure to download the Linux NPAPI tarball, for firefox.)

I'm not seeing "23 release version" on Adobe's main "get flash" download site, although I haven't been keeping up with the Ubuntu repos either. Apparently they have, 1:20161026.1-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 -- but apparently that's still version NPAPI: 11.2.202.643. So, who knows, maybe Ubuntu dev Chris Coulson does. I suggest another email.

P.S. The new hash looks clean.
