PolKit

Post by millpond »

On my older system i have PolKit allow *everything*, and for quite a while - and seen no ill effects.

On my newer system I was wondering if I can just disable it entirely.

This is a *single user* network. Anyone at the keyboard should have absolute control. From using devices to shutting down the system.

I am only concerned about WAN security here.

What precisely might be unintended consequences, other than standard vague boilerplate about 'compromising security'.

When I disabled polkit in the Startup I was unable able to open admin programs from the menu (such as Software Manager, Synaptics PM, etc.
However I could still access the gui via command line.
Everything in life was difficult before it became easy.

Good to know :)
I usually run admin functions from a rooted terminal anyway.

I was worried about it breaking things of more importance!
