"Get a newer version of e2fsck!" [SOLVED]

Post by Flemur »

Solution at end.

I installed "Linux for All" (because it has a flubox-only desktop), then couldn't access the partition it was installed on.

Error from gparted:

Code: Select all

GParted 0.25.0 --enable-libparted-dmraid --enable-online-resize
Libparted 3.2
Check and repair file system (ext4) on /dev/sda9 00:00:01 ( ERROR )

calibrate /dev/sda9 00:00:01 ( SUCCESS )
 ...
check file system on /dev/sda9 for errors and (if possible) fix them 00:00:00 ( ERROR )

e2fsck -f -y -v -C 0 /dev/sda9 00:00:00 ( ERROR )

e2fsck 1.42.13 (17-May-2015)
/dev/sda9 has unsupported feature(s): metadata_csum
e2fsck: Get a newer version of e2fsck!
Solution:
Download the appropriate .deb files from

Code: Select all

http://packages.ubuntu.com/yakkety/e2fslibs
http://packages.ubuntu.com/yakkety/e2fsprogs
and install e2fslibs, then install e2fsprogs.

<moderator on> Had to move this thread to "Chat about Linux", because LfA is based on Ubuntu 16.04.1 and Debian, but of course, it is not Linux Mint. </moderator off>

<moderator on> Moved the thread back to "Main Edition" > "Software & Applications", beause the problem and the solution affect currently supported Linux Mint 18.x versions, too, not just "Linux for All"</moderator off>

Would be nice to move it back (or somewhere else), because this problem occurs in 18.3 Cinnamon 64, too.
It only depends on the e2fschk version you have, not on the OS itself.
That's not "chat about s.t."
