I put SteamOS on a machine and I must say I like it so far.
Most would probably ask why I don't just have a Linux desktop with Steam installed. The thing is I had an extra pc I built with an APU, and it wasn't doing much. Not only is it a dedicated gaming machine, but SteamOS works with a controller I bought back in 2008 (Logitech). Basically I can hook it up to the TV and use it as a game console. Especially with the summer sale going on. It's nice to do some Linux gaming from my couch.
The big drawback is that you can't switch graphics cards on the fly without wrecking the whole system. You might be able to do it once at most, but anymore after that and the system won't boot.
