Why would I click on that link? :lol: Gives us at least the semblance of a summary of what it is about.

Well I clicked on that link !

..... and my system got hosed .... everything got encrypted .

[ That is a complete lie BTW , and anyway , I'm on a Linux system :D ]

But joking aside , I think that if the OP had included some description , nobody would have clicked it ..... " Statistics P*rn Here " ?

@chrisuk
Sorry Chris , no offense ( it's all in jest ) but I just can't take in such a big block of raw data :)

OK, I admit it... a bit cryptic ;) In my defence, I was in a rush.

It is a lot of data, but I was hoping someone who likes (and understands) statistics would study it and post a summary for the rest of us ;)

For those wary of clicking the link... it's pictures of Kittens ;)

(It's data on Distro repositories - most outdated packages - most packages etc. )

Updated the topic title. I'm not so sure about the "interesting" part of the statistics.

I checked some of the packages listed under the Outdated column and different notation for a version number makes package be counted as outdated while they have the same version (to human eyes). Also several packages have an upstream official release that downstream distro maintainers have made additional patches for with their own version numbering and it appears that if other distros don't use the same package version (even though it's not an official release) they are counted as outdated. I think that column needs more refinement before it becomes meaningful.

The Unique column is questionable. This just flags package names that aren't found on other distros. Like one distro has gambas3-dev while another has gambas3-devel. Probably the same software but the latter is counted as unique. I don't think that is really meaningful.

The Problm. column seems to have some (pun intended) problems 8) For example for package 0ad it says:
Homepage link "http://play0ad.com/" is a permanent redirect to "https://play0ad.com/" and should be updated
There are many websites reported like that. It's transparent to the user, so should this really be a problem? The link works fine after all.

Anyway, what can be interesting is https://repology.org/metapackages/all/. You can search for software there and click on it in the search results to view which version of it is in which distro repository. Similar to https://pkgs.org/.
