I was about to thank you for the nice suggestion ... but I already have it installed I should probably set an alias because I forget I have exa as ls alternative.

I'm not a huge fan of colours in a terminal, but that's just me.If your OS isn’t listed here, then you’ll have to download and install the binary yourself.

Since it's not available in Software Manager , Synaptic Packages or PPAs

As far as I can see , it's not available as a .deb package
PS - can anyone point me at how to do " multi-quote " in this forum ?
