Linux Kernel 4.13 Released

Post by mike acker »

Linux Kernel 4.13 Released By Linus Torvalds

Source: Essay on FOSSBYTES

notes

as usual,-- a lot of new stuff is incorporated. all stuff we are likely to need if we build new boxes and put in the latest parts

I'm still hoping LMDE/3 will be based on Kernel 4.14 rather than 4.9

It's my understanding Kernel 4.14 will be a LTS type kernel

it is possible to update the kernel. but, if I do that -- I end up "on my own" -- as far as kernel maintenance goes.

It's working fine here.

Lol Yeah, awesome title. I love kernel updates. Hopefully this new one comes with performance improvements and bug fixes for existing hardware.

Sort of off-topic, but speaking of supporting new hardware, last year I inherited a EOL'd server computer when one of the local fire station districts got rid of tons of older hardware.

The motherboard, CPU, etc., is all ancient, but the case is really nice. As far as I can tell, I should be able to put a standard motherboard in it, and newer and newer releases of LinuxMint (and the eventual migration to Kernel 4.13 or 4.14) really makes me want to build a new tower.
Please remember to mark your fixed problem [SOLVED].

Running Linux Mint Cinnamon 20.0.

For sure the base kernel will not be 4.14.
LMDE3 will be based on the current Debian Stable and on its current kernel.
Maybe 4.14 will be available in the backports. But that's a totally different story.
If it ain't broke, fix it until it is.

still off topique,
I got an old Acer machine and liked the case so much that when it died I got a new Motherboard and fixed it up. Good thing I also got a new power supply as the pinout on the big connector has different colors and I guess bang if original used. Ian.

Funny you should say that because I recently got my hands on a nice old Acer tower and plan to make it a server. Their case designs are really smart. Black and silver. Problem is, it's 32-bit. -__- XP era. Should still serve 64-bit machines, right?
