Any idea if there is an easy option to set the default font in Gedit as i don't seem to have any custom settings , i tried pressing ALT as suggested at google but that done nothing.
I have ubun 17.1 and mint 18.3 dual boot.
I slightly prefer Mint over Ubuntu even though the "mint*" tools - which seem to be the main difference - are pretty primitive. This Mint forum is a lot better than the Ubuntu forum.
Ubuntu did the "spectre/meltdown" hack/fix better than Mint: in Mint I can't install any nvidia drivers after doing the (kernel) fixes, in Ubuntu no problems.

It doesn't have task bar hover preview so you can't quickly see what other applications or windows are doing which is ridiculous on a modern day desktop when people are multi-tasking.

I don't have it , maybe it's a dash-to-panel conflict as that is the only thing i have installed so i'll have to disable it and see if i get a hover option.
Don't know if anyone is interested but latest version of Dash-to-Panel now has an option to ungroup applications so you have separate task bar icons for each window with preview just like Cinnamon.
So if you have 10 firefox windows open then you'll have 10 task bar icons instead of 1 firefox icon with them all together.
