Appears my Mint 18.3 is broken now
I've did all the updates including the new Kernel and now my desktop stuff doesn't work anymore. I can't change themes, wallpaper, panel settings, screensaver etc. Anyone else have this happen since the updates?
Thanks
Thanks

It's Beta so things are going to break / get fixed / break / and get fixed again.

Thanks for the link! I realize with BETA this stuff will happen. I'm happy as heck with this new version 18.3 and I can live with a few breaks

As has been said it's beta software the even warn you not to install on production (daily use ).
everything is still working quite well with my as updated this morning. So it may be a hardware issue - you should report it via the comments section of the blog.
so it can be looked at and fixed before final release.

EXPECT things to break at some point when you update a beta release.
Personally I think beta distro releases are only suitable for people who seriously know what they're doing, which is tha advice always given at Ubuntu or Debian. IMO using noobs as guinea pigs/free testers is very bad form.

Re: Appears my Mint 18.3 is broken now
So far so good...knock on wood...nothing's broken yet. However, I installed 18.3 on my aging System76 laptop, which is not my primary production machine. If it breaks, I'll see if I can find a fix; if not, I'll re-install and be up and running in no time.

Update just came through and now it's running like a charm This is the OS to have

I would agree with you if it wasn't clearly stated that this is for testing purposes only.Hoser Rob wrote:IMO using noobs as guinea pigs/free testers is very bad form.
Which it is.

Yeah, a commit with a bad line was pushed but found quite quickly. These things happen on occasion. It should already be fixed.

Thanks Joseph. You guys are doing a fantastic job. 18.3 is something to be proud of.

The problem is: most people overestimate their skill level. Goobers like me didn't get smart about that truth until we got old.MintBean wrote:I would agree with you if it wasn't clearly stated that this is for testing purposes only.Hoser Rob wrote:IMO using noobs as guinea pigs/free testers is very bad form.

I quite agree, but hopefully we have the common good sense to know who to blame at that stage.felemur wrote:The problem is: most people overestimate their skill level. Goobers like me didn't get smart about that truth until we got old.
