Firefox 58 released

Post by Lucap »

https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2018/01 ... protection
The two highlights from today's release are an optional Tracking Protection feature and new multithreading in the page rendering.
Apparently by Firefox 60 GTK2 support will be fully dropped in favour of GTK3 so i'm sure that will annoy some of the light weight Ditro's that still rely on GTK2

Also, if you read the "what's new?", you'll see that profiles from 58 on will no longer be backward compatible with older versions. I suggest that before updating to ff 58, you save a copy of your profile and append it with .ff57 or something like that. That way in the future, should you want to start using ESR firefox, you'll have a compatible profile.

Regards
Bob

That's somewhat interesting. Also I'm wondering why there is a picture of a Red Panda.

A "Firefox" is another name for the red panda.

Interesting! I didn't know that. Now I'm wondering why their logo has always shown a fox...

Firefox 59 Might Ship With Working Wayland Support

https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page= ... ossibility
Besides Firefox 59 being the release doing away with GTK2 support, this next Mozilla web-browser release might be the one to achieve working native Wayland support.
Dropping GTK2 support quicker than i thought.
