can't move photos to flash drive or sd card

I just found out that petra has reached its EOL and I have install disccks for Linux Vector 7.0 ( don't know if that's a system I'll be comfortable with ) but I'd like to keep my photos and documents . everything i've tried has failed . any suggestions ? Wayne

procedure is everything. I don't know what you have already tried, maybe this is redundant

start by downloading a new ISO for a new version you would like to try.
make a USB or CD installer from that
boot into a live session and try making copies onto your other devices

that should work I think

boot with a live linux mint and see if you can get to them
