Peppermint on a USB drive is acting weird

Post by Pepi »

I downloaded the ISO for Peppermint 8 and made sure the download was good. I used my USB Image Writer from Mint 18.3 to make the Peppermint USB bootable. First time I boot from the USB it ran Peppermint. When I try to boot onto the USB again the computer says the device is not bootable. I've tried two different USB drives. I also burnt an ISO of Linux 18.3 to it and it will boot ever time

sounds like something must have changed on that stick -- is it the same stick you used for mint?
sometimes I've found I need to use gparted or similar tool to completely erase the stick and then reburn it.

Yep.. same stick for Mint; works fine. I also tried gparted to clean up the media. Still does it? WEIRD Maybe I should try a different imagine burner?

I've used Etcher with good luck. you can get it as an appimage from here just download and make it executable and run it.

I figured out WHAT but not WHY?

If I launch the USB into Peppermint and then do a reboot and try to go back into the Peppermint USB it won't boot? If I boot into the USB Peppermint drive and do a shutdown then turn on the PC and go to the USB drive it will work :?: :?: It's like the USB port is holding a lock on the thumb-drive until it is turned off.
