i run epsxe through wine because it runs much better than running native in linux, but not sure which updates killed it    runs fine in arch linux, where i have wine blocked from updates .
Interesting post. I also use ePSXe, but the native version works just fine for me. I used this script to install it with custom shaders. Works amazing on old Dell Optiplex machines.

Since I'm still on Xenial, I use Wine via the official PPA (development branch, since I'm kinda naughty like that ;)), and I have no complaints about the build.

Anyone using Proton? If so, does it work well?

Works fine, not just for games, I'm using it instead of a standalone Wine install.

For a "slightly" broader sample size than mine: https://www.protondb.com/

Thanks! Is there any special installation/configuration needed?

Just start the Linux version of Steam and enable it in Steam's settings:

Any title without a Linux version will then automatically be downloaded as the Windows version and run through Proton.

For some titles you may need to enable compatibility options in a game's launch options, see https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton ... ig-options and the link I gave before.
