Works fine, not just for games, I'm using it instead of a standalone Wine install.

Just start the Linux version of Steam and enable it in Steam's settings:

Any title without a Linux version will then automatically be downloaded as the Windows version and run through Proton.

For some titles you may need to enable compatibility options in a game's launch options, see https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton ... ig-options and the link I gave before.
