Syncing Firefox to my FF account so that all of my Bookmarks and Preferences automatically load,
all that is needed is to login to your FF account and leave it alone for a while, it will set itself up just the way you like it.

One feature I want, but don't have yet, is a way to make LibreOffice Record Macros and be able to assign my own Kybd Shortcut to activate that macro.... I have NOT been able to make this work yet.

Adding in
mint-meta-codecs

Fix the WiFi radio so it won't drop out, a major PITA for me
Code: Select all
sudo sed -i 's/wifi.powersave = 3/wifi.powersave = 2/' /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/default-wifi-powersave-on.conf
Reminding myself that I must turn OFF all power save features,
Hibernate, Suspend, Sleep..... or my laptop will crash.

Making notes of what kernels are bad so that I don't repeat an old problem

Setting up Timeshift so that it performs the way I want it to
=============================================
Installing the Crontab jobs so that the Security Updates are taken care w/o me getting involved.
I also have them create a log so that I can go back and review every change that was made.
This has proven invaluable to me..... click on Update Manager does NOT leave a trail for you to follow
=============================================
Add in all of the PPA features that we have started thinking of as "Standard Features" in for a good install,
but, are totally missing in the Mint Repositories.

Screenshots: I use this extensively, and it irks me to have to go find the files, so..........
Linux Default Directories for Screenshot Leafpad xed
For me, it must always be this:
Code: Select all
gsettings set org.gnome.gnome-screenshot auto-save-directory '/home/john/Desktop'

Aptik: this needs to be in everyones bag of tricks:
Linux Aptik backup & restore utility
it is now is Software Manager do not use this version, it won't update correctly.
the new way that TJ has it works better, as he split it into two apps, not one.
Main:
Code: Select all
sudo apt-add-repository -y ppa:teejee2008/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install aptik
the GUI
Code: Select all
apt install aptik-gtk
And Contrary to TeeJee's comments, it does NOT show up in Accessories, it shows up in the Administration menu.
================================================
and for me, a reminder to turn off Guest Accounts
To Disable the Guest Account:
you can disable the Guest session by going to
Menu > Control Center > Administration section > Login Window.
toggle the button next to Allow guest sessions to OFF

and dependencies, a hint I have stored:
Note: I have run into the problem of dependencies not be installed, and new software not working.
this is supposed to help with this.
Code: Select all
sudo apt install -f
Sometimes like with Google Chrome, you may have to run the command below before it comes up.
I usually run this command below after installing any software just to be sure the installation finished and any dependencies were installed. per phd21 Phill
