I don't believe he had any clue that he was about to revolutionise the entire planet.

I recall that and went looking for it because I thought it was the understatement of the millennium but I couldn't see it. Maybe it's time for new spectacles...

I wasn't speaking of gnu and I have no idea why you're asking me instead of google.

Why Aug 25?
Everything in life was difficult before it became easy.

Linus' first post to minix users about his "hobby."

Hello everybody out there using minix -
I'm doing a (free) operating system (just a hobby, won't be big and
professional like gnu) for 386(486) AT clones. This has been brewing
since april, and is starting to get ready. I'd like any feedback on
things people like/dislike in minix, as my OS resembles it somewhat
(same physical layout of the file-system (due to practical reasons)
among other things).
I've currently ported bash(1.08) and gcc(1.40), and things seem to work.
This implies that I'll get something practical within a few months, and
I'd like to know what features most people would want. Any suggestions
are welcome, but I won't promise I'll implement them
Linus (torv...@kruuna.helsinki.fi)
PS. Yes - it's free of any minix code, and it has a multi-threaded fs.
It is NOT protable (uses 386 task switching etc), and it probably never
will support anything other than AT-harddisks, as that's all I have .

cw misunderstood--I was referring to dead links in the 25 year old post--all41 wrote: ⤴Sat Aug 25, 2018 11:12 pmAll the links are dead--what kind of post is this anyway?catweazel wrote: ⤴Sat Aug 25, 2018 11:00 pmMrEen wrote: ⤴Sat Aug 25, 2018 10:49 pm catweazel has it in the first post, but to help you not have to scroll all the way up there, here ya go: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!msg/c ... Nonsense

Re: August 25 - Happy 27th Birthday, Linux!
Why would you want to click on 25 YO links anyway? Isn't that a bit like driving through central downtown and expecting all the shops to be just where, and as, they were 25 years ago.
