Desktop clips through background when recording, only happens in Linux Mint Cinnamon
When recording something in Cinnamon, my desktop will often clip through for a few frames.
- This only happens in Cinnamon. On Mate, which I have installed alongside Cinnamon (and which consequentially is using the same video drivers) it does not happen.
- This happens with every piece of recording software I have tried, with the exception of the hidden recording feature in Cinnamon (ctrl+alt+shift+r).
- Some programs (like Firefox) seem immune to the effect.
- I have a Geforce 780 TI. This does not happen with the open source graphics drivers, but it does happen with every version of the closed source ones that I've tried.
- I'm on 18.2, but it happened in 18.1, and if I remember correctly 18 as well.
Here's a short video of the glitch happening -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mECdY_9 ... e=youtu.be
Anyone have any idea on why this is happening, and what I could do to fix this? I'd really appreciate any help!

A couple of days ago I maked a post with the same trouble. Only that I have an intel graphics.
For Nvidia I found some suggestions. Try this one: https://beamtic.com/obs-screen-flicker

Hi "Suby",
Welcome to the wonderful world of Linux Mint and its excellent forum !
It would help to know more about your system setup. If you run "inxi -Fxzd" from the console terminal prompt, highlight the results, copy and paste them back here, that should provide enough information.
It would also help to know how you are recording your desktop, which application(s) have you tried? After reviewing that very quick video, it looks like you are using OBS which is great software. I read that you must have a video card capable of "openGL" (GLX) of version 3 or higher to use it though, and sadly my ancient computer hardware cannot do that.
SimpleScreenRecorder (IMHO the best desktop screen recorder app)
http://www.maartenbaert.be/simplescreenrecorder/
To install this using the PPA method, open a console terminal, type in, or copy & paste, each line below one by one:

# if you want to record 32-bit OpenGL applications on a 64-bit system:
[/color]
Hope this helps ...

Thanks for the replies!
To be clear, in case anyone else runs into the same issue as me, I did not find the option in the nvidia control panel as the link said. I had to go to the terminal and enter
I'll post back here if it turns out this was a false positive on solving the issue.
Thanks again guys!
I can't be sure until I've tested some more, but it looks like setting ForceCompositionPipeline to on has solved my issue.faramhit wrote:A couple of days ago I maked a post with the same trouble. Only that I have an intel graphics.

Hello guys,
This thread is a bit older, but I see that the issue hasn't been resolved nor has the thread been closed. I experience the same issue. When recording my screen, the wallpaper flickers through windows.

If your issue is solved, kindly indicate that by editing the first post in the topic, and adding [SOLVED] to the title. Thanks!
Re: Desktop clips through background when recording, only happens in Cinnamon
Hello!
I apologize that I missed the fact the the old thread is about Mint, however, using SimpleScreenRecorder is not a solution. It is actually the tool I used for the recording.
The issue doesn't occur on the very same fedora machine with KDE.

Re: Desktop clips through background when recording, only happens in Cinnamon
It doesn't matter if it happens or not in KDE in fedora for you, it's fedora and this is a Linux Mint forum. Other distros aren't supported here. It matters not one bit if it's Cinnamon.
Try the Fedora forums.

I've got the same issue with Cinnamon 3.6 The problem appears with recordmydesktop, zoom.us
All other desktop environments (Mate, KDE, XFCE, Gnome) are free of it.
This issue seriously affects my work as I need to perform daily meetings with Zoom.us

Hi eugene86, and welcome to the forum.
For anyone to be of any assistance, they will probably need to see some hardware specs. Post the output of running
I will mention that there was "solution" posted in the original thread linked to in the thread you posted to. I have no idea if this will work in your case. I don't even know if you should attempt it without knowing your hardware. Here's a direct link to the post: viewtopic.php?f=47&t=249205#p1339748
