IRS Moved to Linux But ...

Post by michael louwe »

https://news.softpedia.com/news/irs-not ... 4239.shtml - IRS Not Yet Ready to Move to Linux Due to Its Own Errors - Dec 12, 2018
.
For a company or organisation to move to Linux successfully, she needs to hire a few Linux professionals or experts. They will cost about a quarter to half a million US$ in pay/salary annually.

With Windows, she only needs to hire 1 or 2 IT Admins because Windows is very user-friendly and configurable in terms of GUI-based tools, and fully-supported by the OEMs and business software developers. An inhouse accountant or engineer or marketing manager can also double-up as a Windows IT Admin like a 2-in-1 multi-tasker.

They are currently running these applications on Solaris. The migration to Linux is stalled because "staff lacked the technical skills to carry out the migration." This has bad management written all over it. Migrating to Windows instead wouldn't have been a solution. Actually managing the team and the project is what is needed. I've seen so many of such projects fail because of incompetent managers.

So upper management often thinks, which explains why the internal workings of most companies are so half-assed at best, and nightmare horror stories at worst.

I know that their desktop systems are running Windows so they must know about the hell of Super Tuesdays. I guess they don't care if their servers are as unsecure and vulnerable as their desktops. They can always trot Lois Lerner out and claim "the hard drive crashed."
