I installed Bedrock Linux on Linux Mint. Bedrock Linux is a meta distro that lets you have access to wide range of packages that are typically mutually exclusive to those distro's. With Bedrock Linux installed i can now install say Arch Linux packages on Linux Mint for example.
Check for more information: https://bedrocklinux.org/
All i did was download Bedrock Linux from here: https://github.com/bedrocklinux/bedrocklinux-userland
Opened Terminal and "sudo sh bedrock-linux-0.7.1-x86_64.sh --hijack". Check: https://bedrocklinux.org/0.7/installati ... tions.html
Rebooted.
Opened terminal and "brl fetch --list" then "sudo brl fetch arch". You can use something other than arch if you want to.
Now i can "sudo pacman -Syu" and "sudo pacman -S krita" for example on Linux Mint terminal without having to rely on PPA's or Flatpaks to get latest versions software's.
Test it in VirtualBox first if you are interested, on your choice of distro.
With this i don't need to bother with PPA's and Flatpaks except for drivers

Very interesting - definitely something for a Virtualbox install as you suggest. Have a good read of the FAQ before experimenting.

Good for you. But expect frequent breakage.

I'm guessing it's a true rolling release. Expect to also learn a lot of things about CLI recovery, very quickly. That's not a bad thing. Probably the best way to REALLY learn an OS is to break it completely and then fix it.
Not being sarcastic here, it's going to be a much better beyond-newbie learning experience than getting a C++ compiler and then pretending you understand it, which is how many do it. I'd probably do it on a spare machine I don't need myself.
