Configure TDP | Mint 19.1

Post by Seffer »

I've been wondering if there is any way to set the TDP of my chip (7300HQ, Dell 7567) to it's 35w TDP setting to consume less power and run at a lower frequency. I've seen posts about frequency scaling, but that isn't my problem. My chip scales just fine. I just would like to change the out of the box setting of 45w down to 35w for more daily use cases and not gaming.

Not easily it seems. I.e., https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=234962. That is, if you have no option to set this in your BIOS then you'll apparently need some definite lowlevel tweakage.

...there's a nice article here that should get you going.
Do read the instructions / gotchas in the linked Github projects suggested there...
I'm using iuvolt myself for 'simple' undervolting, never messed around with TDP value though.

Thank you both for the assist. I'll look into both options and see if anything comes out positive!
