Xfce 4.14 is approaching final release!

Post by Pjotr » Tue Jul 16, 2019 5:00 am

All Xfce lovers rejoice, for blessings are about to pour from heaven:
ttps://wiki.xfce.org/releng/4.:14/roadmap
https://wiki.xfce.org/releng/4.14/roadmap

According to an email to the Xfce mailing list from one of its core devs, the roadmap is still valid (pre3 will be released on schedule as well), and they're aiming for the scheduled August, 11. Yay! :D

By the way: I personally guarantee that it'll be 100 % localized for Dutch.

Check your own localization and if there are still untranslated strings, jump in to lend a hand:

--Edit: fixed the web link (thanks JoeFootball). :P

Does this mean a proper solution to the problems described in the XFCE sub-forum about the mesa and xfwm updates which borked some users' systems?

At the moment the Mint Update Manager still only offers a 'workaround' with a downgrade. I'm running Mint 19.1 XFCE. I don't know if my system would be affected but I'm playing safe and have not (yet) downloaded the current mesa and xfwm updates.

It would be good to have a long-term fix.

Probably not, yet at least.

Clem said he can reproduce the bug with xfwm4 v.4.13.3 which is what Xfce 4.14 will be shipping with. By the time we see it in Mint it may have been fixed though.

EDIT: Actually the issue is really MESA using LLVM8. It breaks a few things, one of which was the 4.13 version of xfwm4. It doesn't break the 4.12 version though, so that's why it's been downgraded for now.

Presently rocking LinuxMint 19.2 Cinnamon.

Remember to mark your fixed problem [SOLVED].
