Gnome patent troll

Post by justaguy » Sun Nov 03, 2019 11:38 am

I just wanted to thank the team for mentioning the Gnome patent business in the Mint blog: I hadn't heard about it before. I've been over and dropped my mite in their collection bucket. Let's hope the court costs don't escalate (which is what the Trolls rely on, of course.) Thanks for the heads up!

I'd sure like to know what the patent troll patented. Neither Clem's blog nor the underlying Gnome blog talks about any specifics. Mind you, I'm against any abusive patent, whether for software or anything else. I'm also against abusive copyright laws and take serious objection to Disney's — and other companies' — roles in that regard.

Presently running Ubuntu 19.10 on a MBP 8,1 and dreaming about my return to Linux Mint.

Also looking for a new job.

The patent itself is quite the broad beast, comprising hardware and, importantly in the case of GNOME (or rather, Shotwell,) a method that involves capturing a bunch of images, filtering them based on a topic, theme or individual, and wirelessly transmitting the filtered images to another device.

Except what the hell type of patent troll would sue someone like the GNOME Foundation??? They usually go after corporations which possess actual money.

I am thinking about running for Dictator.

If I do, and if I become Dictator, then I will happily slap down Rothschild for this nonsense.

Also, Apple will libre-license iOS and write all the necessary components to make Apple Watches work perfectly on Purism's PureOS, as well as Android OS.

Also also, as malware (and especially ransomware) authors are discovered, I'll leave the form and manner of punishment up to their victims.

Also also also, the third Friday of every month will be Free Beer Friday. And not that cheap crap, either.

I'd vote for you if only it was permissible in a dictatorship.

Perhaps they have patented the ether (the intangible universal fluid).
