Linux and SiS 672mx?

Post by tpprynn »

There is a 2006 Vista laptop I have and need to move on. It won't run Windows 10 so I want to set it up with one Linux distro or another with as little work as possible, both for me and in terms of panic for the next owner. I remember PCLinuxOS half working a few years ago, but being very slow. Googling shows mostly very old threads and compiled drivers that still don't often work.

If anyone here has salvaged machines with these nuisance chips I'd be pleased to hear of it. I had a hope that I could just install Debian LXDE using the non-graphical installer, shove a xorg.conf in and that'd do the job but it doesn't seem that easy.

Thanks.

I am afraid your going to be out of luck with that SIS chipset It has not been supported in Linux since ubuntu 12.04 or so. Most modern Linux Distro's will not run on it. But that being said here are a couple of links that may point a way. https://linux-sis-driver.weebly.com/lin ... 71-772-717

If it is worth the trouble you will have to choose.
Good Luck.
