Hi,
What are some significant uses of Linux you've heard of ?
I'm not talking about the many servers run Linux, for websites and so forth, but projects and research run just on Linux.
For example, I like astronomy and noticed the LBT (large binocular telescope : https://www.lbto.org/ ) uses Linux to run software -
and analysis for one of the largest telescopes on Earth.
Any significant projects you know of that use Linux ?

Re: Significant uses of Linux
You can answer that for yourself. All of the world's fastest supercomputers are running linux, and visiting the websites of the institutions that they belong to will reveal a plethora of research applications.
Example: Search google for supercomputers top 500, see Shaheen II, search google for Shaheen II, see wikipedia article and read.

I was talking about specific research and projects, not servers or supercomputers in general.Kadaitcha Man wrote: ⤴Wed Apr 01, 2020 7:32 pmYou can answer that for yourself. Like something specific involved with particular discoveries in science or other types of research using Linux.
Sorry for not clarifying that.

So was I.
Really? Where did you write that? My eyes are a bit shot at the moment. Please point it out. Maybe I need to pay better attention. Or learn to read minds.or supercomputers in general.

Just have a look see and find out what "linux" is doing with Folding@Home...Although Windows and Macs are sharing there CPUs as well, the linux community is very active with this project...DAMIEN
