Not surprising that there is no reward for breaking Windows

So Microsoft is admitting that a Linux based server OS is superior to their Windows NT based server OS. Because that is the ONLY thing the article said.

Microsoft, like Apple, has two things operating in it's favor:

1. Availability of specific software titles; and

2. Customer ignorance of credible alternatives

Looked at from a certain point of view, Microsoft's a paper tiger.

MS has a monopoly for desktop OS. Even the new machines mostly 98% of the times come bundled with Winwoes. The paper tiger has become more superior to the real tiger somehow, alas.

People don't use operating systems...they use apps.

A very clever person once said that, I forget who.

:?

Desktop OS is "legacy". How many users have desktop os' lost to mobile (android, iOS)?

In a manner of speaking, I think people have transitioned away from using regular desktops to (principally) smart phones not so much because the desktop is "legacy" but because previously there was no other option for the kinds of things people wanted/needed to do, like messaging and email.

WIndows is MS main product but they dont offer any reward for breaking it. Its because you dont require any efforts to break it, it breaks on its own.

Then theres people like me who don't want to be so limited and use their phone as a ...well... phone LoL.

It's not a server-based OS, it's for low-powered IoT devices. This is a completely different paradigm to desktop computing and the attack surface area will be very different. I think a bug-bounty program is a step in the right direction and the amount looks large enough to attract quite a lot of interest.

I, for one, embrace Microsoft's recent interest in Linux and open source software in general. They have been much better corporate citizens over the last few years because of it. In the world of FOSS, where you get to pick and choose your vendor, what's not to like about having more choice?

I gloomily came to the ironic conclusion that if you take a highly intelligent person and give them the best possible, elite education, then you will most likely wind up with an academic who is completely impervious to reality.
