To be absolutely clear, Microsoft has not made any announcements regarding an acquisition of Canonical or Ubuntu. This article explores some of the reason why they might do so in the future, and predicts that it’s something that would makes sense for the company going forward.
Seems a bit early to start worrying about.

Concerned about something that's, so far, nothing but speculation? Well, whatever spins your beanie.

Thanks for throwing that "so far" in there.

Ubuntu builds on the community project Debian. I'd rather doubt a Microsoft distribution would; would hence rather doubt they'd be all that interested in Ubuntu.

In case Microsoft should ever acquire Canonical, then this will be the end of Ubuntu as we have known it.
We are Microsoft. Lower your firewalls and surrender your developer accounts. We will add your source codes and technological distinctiveness to our own. Your operating system will adapt to service us. Resistance is futile. [1]

as already noted - - only Mark Shuttleworth - - would know the correct answer.

most Linux Users, would abandon any Linux System, that was acquired by Microsoft .. in droves.
IE: it would be the "end" of that Linux System, most likely.

the reason is quite simple really .. most Linux Users stopped using Microsoft Windows .. for an reason.

Yes, that was April 1st, but this is June 1st and the only possible relationship
that I could see between the two, is that was a starting point for a takeover,
"planted the seeds of thought, so to speak".

First thing I'd read is this bit:

This article explores some of the reason why they might do so in the future, and predicts that it’s something that would makes sense for the company going forward. Only executives at Microsoft and Mark Shuttleworth really know if this is something that has actually been discussed or thought about. I do NOT have any insider information what so ever. Please leave a message in the comments telling me what you think about this idea. Thanks!

Is this the beginning of the end,
No. It's one person's musings on an idea that one person had. That's all.

Seem to find a good bit of chatter about this for it to be just one person's musings !!!

Well, as this seems to be heading into the tinfoil hat area, I'll bow out now.

Carry on.

I suspect that most of us are actually wearing aluminium-foil hats rather than tin-foil ones, so you should be OK.

A technicality but then this is a "technical" Forum :P

:D I wonder if this one is going to be standardized at some point, as "Sulfur" recently has.

I do wish we'd sort the date formats out though, properly. It's so confusing! Maybe if M$ takes over Canonical, they will sort that out. hahaha HAHAHA haha ha ha (falls off stool)

The author, Chris Pietschmann, and according to his website he is a Microsoft MVP in Azure and Azure IoT. This does not disqualify him from posting his opinion, but might have a vested interest in Micros~1 purchasing Canonical. He loses credibility points with me by leaving it out of the Disclaimer.

He lost all credibility when he supported his position by quoting himself and his website.
Microsoft acquiring Canonical and Ubuntu may be the best way for Microsoft to stay relevant in the way of operating systems of the future; for both server and desktop use.
