Debian 11.0 "Bullseye" release date: August 14

Post by Moonstone Man »

Code: Select all

Release date
============

We plan to release on 2021-08-14.
...

The final weeks up to the release
=================================

In the last week prior to the freeze, testing will be completely
frozen and only emergency bug fixes will be considered in this period.
Please consider Tuesday the 2021-08-03 at 12:00 UTC the absolute last
moment for submitting unblock requests for bullseye.

Changes that are not ready to migrate to testing at that time will
not be included in bullseye for the initial release. However, you can
still fix bugs in bullseye via point releases if the changeset follows
the rules for updates in stable.

Starting now, we will be even more strict when considering unblock
requests. Please check the details below and make sure to only upload
well-tested *targeted* fixes...

In my view, Debian makes for an excellent server OS, but not that great of a desktop OS.

Actually, I recently fired up and installed their KDE bullseye. It's very nice, and it's quite slick. Even installing nVidia drivers was a cinch.

I'm using Bullseye since July 2019, when Buster became stable I didn't change 'testing' in my sources list. It turned out to be a good decision. So, another one on August 14 - go Bookworm or stay on Bullseye. Unlike in Ubuntu domain, the continuity is a possibility and user choice in the Debian world.

Please try Bullseye Cinnamon and find more than two significant differences with Linux Mint or LMDE.

From what I've read, 32bit is still supported, but the information seems to vary from site to site. If anyone can confirm whether it is supported, that would be good to know.

I'm sure they'll phase out support in the near future, but if this is the last one to include 32bit processors, then that's great for people with old tech.

Cool. I'm not sure how it will perform on older hardware, but that certainly would be ideal if it runs alright.
