https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page= ... Linux-5.15Barring any last minute surprises, it's looking like this NTFS3 driver will finally be mainlined come Linux 5.15. This driver offers much better read/write support and other features over the existing NTFS kernel driver or the FUSE-based NTFS-3G option....

No need to wait, just click on try free edition
Microsoft NTFS for Linux by Paragon Software - Introduction
I wonder, when implemented in 5.15, if ever, some folks go marching in, attempting to install Linux on the NTFS partition. Creepy
I am gradually migrating my data drives to ext4 to get rid of the ntfs-3g CPU overhead. So it would be a nice thing when/if implemented.

Re: New NTFS driver for Linux kernel almost ready
I know of Paragon Software, and I know about the offering mentioned above. A friend of mine uses it with some multi-TB drives he's bought. He has issues with it from time to time, but then he's also refusing to run anything newer than Mac OS X 10.6. on his ca. 2008 iMac. Most of the people in his orbit also use Macs, though in general they have much newer hardware and also are not as absolutely tied to one OS. Personally, I think he should just format his to Mac OS Extended/Journaled, but it's not my call.
Anyhow, having NTFS3 as a kernel module is probably not a bad thing. Having all the maintenance tools for it would be a good thing as well.
P.S.: I have never understood why Apple didn't include full read and write support for NTFS back in 2000/2001 with the release of Mac OS X. Their half-assing of it with read-only support hasn't done them any favors, IMNSHO. They've been on good(ish) terms with Microsoft right along; licensing the whole thing would have made more sense.
