[SOLVED] Why doesn't Synaptic show the installed version?

Post by Schultz »

I followed the instructions on how to updated inxi, [found in this thread ] and when I run inxi --version in the terminal it shows it indeed got updated. But when I look in Synaptic, it still shows the old version. Anybody know why? [Note: this is not on Mint.]

Because you installed it outside the apt system; my OS doesn't know that firefox is installed because I install it by expanding a firefox.xxx.tar.bz2 file.
Please edit your original post title to include [SOLVED] if/when it is solved!
Your data and OS are backed up....right?

Thanks Flemur.

[Note: changed subject title as the one assigned by the mod didn't fit; I understand that Synaptic doesn't always offer the latest version.]

I gave it my best guess hoping you would change it it if it didn't fit. ;)

If you check this post it indicates that one needs to add the repository where the latest inxi version is kept for Synaptic to show you have the latest version installed. That correlates with Flemur's post.
