Installing Surface Linux Kernel

Post by thewatermelloan »

Hey guys! I'm very new to Linux, and the only computer I have to work on is a Surface Book 3. I'm currently trying to install the surface kernel so that I can get everything working properly. I've followed all the steps and talked to some people on Reddit but I haven't been able to install it properly yet.
https://github.com/linux-surface/linux- ... -and-Setup
This is the link and I'm following the steps listed under Debian/Ubuntu. I get through the first few without issue, I have confirmed that the GPG key has been installed both in the file manager and through synaptic, but once I actually try the

Code: Select all

-$ sudo apt install linux-image-surface linux-headers-surface iptsd libwacom-surface
part, it successfully installs the image and the headers, but the iptsd and libwacom-surface files give me error 401: Unauthorized. Why might this be happening and how can I fix it?

I am hitting the buffers at exactly that point too. Did you find a solution?

I am not familiar with this but I found an issue about it here: https://github.com/linux-surface/linux- ... issues/643

It also refers to a workaround here:

If you think the issue is solved, edit your original post and add the word solved to the title.

Thank you very much. I had, in fact, seen that thread but I was fazed by the mass of info and possibilities it contained. "I couldn't see the wood for the trees!" I have worked through the post you linked to and it worked for me. Thanks again.
