Ubuntu 22.04 beta has a Grub problem.

Post by SuperSapien »

I'm pretty sure this Grub problem will be fixed by the time Ubuntu 22.04 releases in April at least I hope it is.

Grub 2.06 and the trouble that comes with it.

I'm using grub 2.06 on multi-boot system since last December. There is no a problem with multiboot. Please read the log in my comment here:
viewtopic.php?p=2111545#p2111545

More important feature is a support of LUKS2 encrypted volumes in grub 2.06.

What about a clean install with Grub 2.06? Does it still work then?

Activations of os-prober depends on the GRUB_DISABLE_OS_PROBER option in /etc/default/grub.
Setting GRUB_DISABLE_OS_PROBER=false followed by update-grub is possible on clean install.

That's likely not the only problem, ALL betas have many problems. I'd never ever install a beta point release unless my hardware was very bleeding edge.

I didn't install it though. I'm just wondering when or if this Grub bug will fixed for Ubuntu 22.04? :?:

Still it is not a bug but upstream design decision following discovered vulnerability. And there is an option to switch on the OS prober. There is nothing to fix.

So is this option in the installation GUI to switch on the OS prober?

Ubuntu 22.04 is rife and riddled with all kinds of bugs and imperfections, as it's still under heavy development. Not much earthly use in discussing its flaws yet.

Just wondering, are they still using ubiquity in 22.04, they were planning to replace it?

Of course it a snap, subiquity = ubiquity. Pulled it from here https://github.com/canonical/subiquity
The user interaction is similar. I have limited Ubuntu experience but it seems to me very fast now.

edit 2: curently daily ISOs are using subiquity.

I'll wait until the bèta with diving in, but it looks like there are many changes. We'll see, and we'll also see what this'll mean for the next Linux Mint....

Just installed Ubuntu 22.04 Daily Build from https://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/
ubiquity (22.04.4) is back again. It retained in Something else an option Use as encrypted partition. It was absent when I tried subiquity back then.
Still, a lot's gonna change...
