LMDE fastest distro I've used...

Post by jimm »

LMDE is the fastest thing I've used... and I've used over 200 distros in the last two years.

Wow! You have really been doing some test-driving. Welcome to the forum!
How does your speed testing compare between LMDE and Debian Squeeze?
Current hardware: a Dell OptiPlex 3010 desktop, a Dell Inspiron 531 desktop, and a Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop.
Current OS: LMDE 3

On my PC I have 3 Linux OS'

Rated according to speed/response: (in my opinion)

1. Straight Debian 'testing' with Openbox WM and NO desktop environment.
2. Debian Squeeze with Xfce as a 'stand-alone' desktop.
3. LinuxMintDebianEdition - Squeeze with Gnome.

From my experience, it is the Desktop Environment that makes the difference.
Not saying one is any better than the other ... only "the-lighter-the-faster".

Linux is a hobby for me. I'm a retired Software Engineer who was stuck with Windows while working for a big oil company.
Linux is superior in every way. I download any new distro that looks interesting and try it out, mostly looking at web
speed, but bootup is also a good indicator. I'm not scientific about it, just casual observations.

I have Mint Debian, Mint 10, Mandriva 2010.2, Debris 2.0, and Zorin installed on this PC this week. Most of them are use
Gnome and Firefox 3.6.x. Zorin comes with Chromium, and Chromium seems faster than Firefox 3 on everything. But
when I installed Mint Debian and ran Firefox, I saw that it was as fast as Chromium on Zorin. Haven't tried Chromium
on Mint Debian yet, maybe later today.

Mint Debian is the fastest by far on my PC.

Right now I have to go look at my other hobby... a '52 Chevy truck at a local shop. It should be finished in a few months
and it's going to be fabulous... with a blown 502 BBC and EFI fuel injection. I'm expecting over 1000 HP.

1000hp truck and running LMDE. Both are awesome. I just installed Debian Testing (changed repos from squeeze to testing) the other day and it flies. LMDE is fast as well. I really can't tell a ton of difference but I can tell a little that my Debian install is a bit more responsive. LMDE is beautiful and does a wonderful job. Welcome!

I collect Classic Sportscars . . . favorite is a 1989 Porsche 911 Turbo . . . at just under 600hp on last testing.
I've had it up to 170 mph (on the Interstate)

I have 3 Porsches, an old BMW and a '79 Corvette ... all run and looking good.

I have a '50 Chevy truck with a SB and it nowhere near 1000 hp, probably more like 300 hp. Mine's just an old hot tord that I have had about 15 years now.
LMDE ROCKS!!!

Hey, guys.

I'm as guilty as everyone else . . . but, lets move this Automotive/Car/Truck discussion over to the appropriate thread.

What is your favorite car? > http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=58&t=34915 :D

You can, even, post pictures of your dream car - perfect car - first car. Or the car I wish I still had.
