I have attempted to search the forums for posts related to switching the GPU to the dedicated AMD GPU in my system. I only find stuff on how to install the device but I currently see that it appears to be installed already. Determined this via inxi command. The search also reports over 300 findings in whatever search phrases I was using.

Can I get some quick newbie assistance on how to switch between GPU's? I have found references to nVidia GPU's and the icon that shows in the system tray that allows switching between them. Even if you know of a forum post I could not pick out among the results, feel free to link me the post. Thank you in advance.

I am using the Xfce desktop environment as well. I forgot to include that in my post. Sorry for my shortcomings.

There should be a setting in the motherboard firmware allowing you to disable the integrated GPU. What is the make of the motherboard, or is the whole PC a brand like Dell etc.

This is an HP EliteBook 840, I had not thought about disabling in BIOS. Was not thinking at that level. I would like to know if it is something we can do within the OS environment but if not, I will go that route. I do appreciate you giving your time to replying to my question. You and others are probably super busy with more pressing stuff.

I went trough the BIOS device configuration, I did not see any option to disable on-board GPU. It is an HP BIOS interface so I gather that may be missing or hidden due to this being an old company laptop.

Take a gander at this and see if anything applies:

If not there may well be someone on here who knows how.
