[SOLVED] Linux Mint Cinnamon won't update

Post by FilthySins »

Now these aren't any important updates in particular but I would like to update. When I try to update it says:
E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg -- configure --a' to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.
I've tried a few stuff like kill <PID> but I don't really understand any of this. When the error pops up the shield icon has a red dot.

Thanks for reading. :)

Hello,
That is easy enough to fix and the error message you got is telling you how. The only thing it's not telling you is that the command needs elevated privileges, and we will solve that by adding sudo:
- Close the update manager
- Open a terminal
- Enter the command, exactly as give here:

Code: Select all

sudo dpkg --configure -a
- Press enter, and when prompted, enter your password and press enter again.

Now close the terminal and try the update manager again.

If your issue is solved, kindly indicate that by editing the first post in the topic, and adding [SOLVED] to the title. Thanks!

Hello,
Yes I did the sudo dpkg --configure -a command but then it gives me a screen in the terminal ''UEFI Secure Boot Enabled, blah blah blah enter password'' but I don't know how, it doesn't show up when I write something.

Hello, FilthySins.

Please, show us everything, which is displayed, after you typed sudo dpkg --configure -a, not just some random part of the messages. In particular, "blah blah" does not help us understand, because it is not what will be displayed in the terminal window.

Note:
The commandline sudo dpkg --configure -a will ask you to enter your password first, before executing the dpkg --configure -a part with root permissions.

Regards,
Karl

Thank you so much! This is what was needed, I didn't know how to navigate. Solved.
