Re: Sleeping with the laptop lid closed
If you open System Settings (from Menu) you should find Power Management under Hardware. From there you can define what happens when the lid is closed. I think suspend is usually the default but if you set an external monitor to the primary display it may no longer be the case so you just have to change it back.
Re: Sleeping with the laptop lid closed
have been usinrvation of cabbagetreemog Linux (other distributions) for 9 years. Linux mint for the first time. In power management, first it was the default, then other settings, but the problem remains.answer to cabbagetremo.

It might help if you read this first: viewtopic.php?f=17&t=83444
Re: Sleeping with the laptop lid closed
Are you using a wifi mouse?
If so, can you try a wired mouse to see if the issue goes away?
This viewtopic.php?p=1767413#p1767413 is what I did, and also when I installed Mint 20.3 on a new SSD, so it does work.

Re: Sleeping with the laptop lid closed
I had the same problem with Linux Mint 20.2 XFCE on a Thinkpad laptop.
I reverted back to Mint 19.3 where there is no such issue.

Re: Sleeping with the laptop lid closed
And with Linux Mint 19.3 - the same problem. The laptop does not sleep.

I feel sure there are lots of people on this forum who could really help you - I know they've helped me on very many occasions. I have already tried to draw your attention to how best to ask your question but I don't think you've understood.
Here is an extract from the guidance - please read it and try to comply in order that the help you appear to require can better be supplied.
Details! Details! Details!
Include the version and architecture (32-bit, 64-bit) of Linux Mint.
List any relevant hardware or software specifications. 'inxi' is a useful terminal command for listing this. Use inxi -h for help. Generally it suffices to type the following in terminal and include the output in your post -> inxi -Fxxxrz
List what Display Environment you are using if relevant (Cinnamon, KDE, XFCE, MATE, etc).

Re: Sleeping with the laptop lid closed
I do not use xfce but I think you need to use xfconf-query - more about it here: https://docs.xfce.org/xfce/xfconf/xfconf-query.
Matheus F, on this page: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1520164 seems to suggest a workaround:
Finally, after some messing around, I managed to find a workaround for the upstream bug:
xfconf-query -c xfce4-power-manager -p /xfce4-power-manager/logind-handle-lid-switch -n -t bool -s false
You might need to ask how to do this in the XFCE forum viewforum.php?f=57

Re: Sleeping with the laptop lid closed
This does not work for me. The command "systemctl suspend" - works. From the "logout" button in the menu, "suspend" also works. I have a "suspend" button in the panel and I put the laptop to sleep from it. For now I stay on this option. all these failed attempts it seems that the problem is in the lid of the laptop. It does not close nicely. There is a gap. I have to take it for repair.nielo wrote: ⤴Sat Dec 04, 2021 2:49 am I do not use xfce but I think you need to use xfconf-query - more about it here: https://docs.xfce.org/xfce/xfconf/xfconf-query.
