Which sequence recommended? Mint first or Vista first

Post by veron123 »

Hi,
I have read on the net on how to dual boot OS.
I was just wondering whether which installation sequence is recommended?
To install Mint first or Vista first?
Will there be any re percussion with regards to the installation sequence I make?
Because I heard something about overwriting the bootloader, right?
Hope to hear from you!
Thanks!! :D

You should always install a Windows OS BEFORE a Linux (or any other non-Windows) OS. Windows behaves as if it were the only OS in existence. Typically it will install its own boot loader overtop of existing GRUB or LILO boot loaders, without asking. This will result in your having to manually redo your GRUB or LILO boot loaders, adding the Windows OS in the process. Most Linux distributions on the other hand are very good at detecting other operating systems and offer (or automatically) add them to the boot loader menu.
