Is "Repair broken packages" in Recovery Mode safe?
Hello,
Is "Repair broken packages" in Recovery mode safe? Does it have the same safety level as "Safety Level 1" or "2" in Update Manager?
Thanks.

Yes it's safe. It does not update packages (from any level). Broken here means that somebody or something messed up with the files, which the package installed. The original package contents are restored when fixing it.

When I tried to run "Repair broken packages" it was going to install an update kernel version...which is definitely NOT level 1 or 2 in the update manager...
Re: Is "Repair broken packages" in Recovery Mode safe?
If the kernel package needs to be repaired, it may indeed download the latest version from the repository instead of the one you were using. That's usually not a problem. As far as I know it doesn't install all level 4/5 updates at once.

Dear AlbertP and A Future Pilot,
Thanks for your posts.
AlbertP, you said that installing the kernel updates is not usually a problem. That may be true, but installing kernel updates has the danger of your computer not working, and thus, was relegated to some higher-number update level. In other words, for the person who sticks with the default settings in Update Manager, using "Repair Broken packages" is not as safe as he is accustomed to.

If you do a repair broken packages now though (to fix the "broken pipe" error message issue for instance) you should be fine...it seems that alot of people have done that without any problems.

Well I mean the broken pipe issue seriously isn't an issue. I mean really...what does it hurt?
