how to add launchers to panel in maya

Mint 13 cinnamon installed. Works great -- love it. But how can I put a custom program launcher in the panel. I've succeeded in adding firefox to the panel. Also from the linux mint forums tutorial http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=86813 for mint 12, I've successfully made a Desktop launcher for another program, which works fine. But is there a way to add the launcher to the panel in mint 13 cinnamon? I've tried unlocking the panel, although that won't let me drag this launcher to the panel. Searches on the net are to this point not producing any results. Many thanks.

Add a custom launcher to the menu. You can do this by right-clicking the Menu button in the lower left (or upper left) of the screen, choose Edit menu. Once you have a custom launcher added to the menu, right-click it and choose Add to panel.
