Hey folks,
first of all i'm sorry to ask this question even though i know that there are many other topics concerning a similar issue... but none of them helped me /=
My computer: Linux Mint 13 MATE 64-bit (Windows 7 64-bit as my second operating system), 4GB RAM, Intel Core 2 Quad @ 2.66GHz /// swap partition => 4GB
My issue: When i tried to use hibernate via "menu => turn off => hibernate" my screen simply went black for a few seconds, following that my fans would rotate a little bit faster (the way they do when my system boots) and my desktop reappeared.
After a little bit of research i came across the code "sudo s2disk". When i used this one, my screen went black again - but now it said that it's saving some data to my RAM. So when it had finished doing so, my system tried to reboot straight away - but it failed (the bootscreen said so). I had to open the boot menu and exit it; after another boot my desktop environment reappeared like it just returned from hibernation.
My question: How do I get that hibernate-mode working? Having to turn off the system each time I don't need it for a few hours is just excruciatingly... irritating.
I dunno if this is relevant but with Windows 7 hibernate is working just fine.
Thanks a lot - and by the way: you really helped me setting up my "Mint" without knowing it ;P
greets,
BDQ

Re: Hibernate ends in a failed boot
It's a good idea to read the release notes when installing any new OS, then you may have seen the following
Source https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PrecisePangolin ... ntuDesktopHibernate (suspend to disk) has been disabled by default, as it was found to be unreliable, very slow and confusing to have two suspend modes. See bug 812394 for details. If you want to re-enable it, please follow this recipe.
[Edit] your original post and add [SOLVED] once your question is resolved.

Re: Hibernate ends in a failed boot
Thanks a lot!
Hm, I'll have to accept that hibernate doesn't work. Now I've tried the sleep/suspend-to-ram mode using this tutorial "https://www.linux.com/news/hardware/lap ... der-linux/" (well, i'm not using a laptop, but I thought it might work). Astoundingly enough it didn't work the way I expected it to /=
Please tell me - is there any way to use the suspend-to-ram mode? My menu doesn't offer any such function but it seems to exist, at least according to my sources.
Thanks a lot - once again..

Re: Hibernate ends in a failed boot
Is somebody working on this issue? Not having suspend-to-disk on a notebook totally is a no-go, because long suspend-to-ram sessions require too much power from the batteries. Therefor, I prefer to have both options on a laptop: suspend-to-ram for short breaks, and suspend-to-disk for long breaks. Is there any way to make this work as expected, i.e. smooth, and without trouble? The statement in the release-note is a bit cnfusing and not very detailed thoughremoulder wrote:It's a good idea to read the release notes when installing any new OS, then you may have seen the followingSource https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PrecisePangolin ... ntuDesktopHibernate (suspend to disk) has been disabled by default, as it was found to be unreliable, very slow and confusing to have two suspend modes.
