Re: software manager
This is a known problem of the Software Manager. This happens on somewhat slower computers, as the Software Manager searches once it detects you have stopped typing. If you type slow, it will detect that too early. With almost 60,000 packages in the default repositories, it can lock up searching through all those and making a list of matching packages (as with certain letters, almost all packages will match, this can take a long time). Eventuelly it will unlock. The better approach is to type faster. If that is not an option for you, consider typing the term you want to search for in Gedit first (for example) and copy & paste it to the search field in Software Manager. You may also use a different application to install packages, like Synaptic Package Manager (which also searches as you type, but does so in the background without locking up).
