Adding other Desktop environments

Postby rmcellig » Thu Sep 27, 2012 6:56 am

I just installed Linux Mint 13 MATE and was wondering if I install other DE's window managers like xfce, icewm,etc... will it comprimise the integrity and stability of my LM 13 installation? Is using the Synaptic Package manager the best way to install the DE's and WM's?

I have an old Dell 4500S desktop and was wondering if Mint 13 would work on that machine. This is why I am thinking of installing a lighter WM/DE in Mint 13 so that it will run faster on the old Dell. I have an 80GB HD on it with 1GB of RAM.
Take care,

You would need to be a little cautious in adding other DEs.

- I have added Mate DE to a cinnamon DE - without any apparent issues.
This was done using the Synaptic Package manager. . . .

Many users install LXDE on top of any Mint 13 LTS version to get better performance.
