Screen flicker/crash in Mint 13

Post by rwhubert »

I just installed Mint 13/Cinnamon alongside Mint 11. When running Mint 13, my screen periodically flickers and goes blank for a second or two. This happens several times a minute. I shut down the computer, then rebooted into Mint 11, and sure enough, no problem. Since it only does this in Mint 13, I'm pretty sure it's not a hardware problem. I think there is some sort of instability in Mint 13 that's causing this, so I will stick with 11, till I figure it out. Any ideas would be appreciated.

You have not provided very much information to help someone to help you. While you say it is not related to hardware, your problem more than likely has something to do with the way the software interacts with your hardware. More detail is required. You might find some idea of what might be helpful in this thread. In particular, please post the output of:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fc 0
.
LinuxMint 14 'Nadia' 64-bit dual boot with Win' 7
Kernel: Linux 3.5.0-17-generic (x86_64) >< Cinnamon

I have got exactly the same problem.
Cinnamon / Maya is the only OS on this netbook.
Flickering starts irregularly after some time of operating.
You can stop it with changing brightness up and down for a short while.
But it occurs more and more after that until you have to restart.
"Monitors" doesnt allow me to change the refresh rate (there is none indicated), as I supected, this might be the reason.
Thats my system.

Help would be wonderful ...

thanks, markus

check if something weird/error in dmesg and syslog output

Code: Select all

dmesg
gedit /var/log/syslog
try upgrade to cinnamon 1.6
open software source, select unstable package(romeo). Run update manager.
reboot.
