I suppose I am just stupid, but I don't see the word "Download" on this page: http://www.openprinting.org/printer/Kodak/Kodak-ESP_3

So, I have this file c2esp_25c_i386.deb. I double click on it and just about nothing happens except a dialogue box opens and then closes.

I did that and this is what I got:

roger@roger-G41M-ES2H ~/Downloads $ sudo dpkg -i c2esp_25c-1_i386.deb --force
Selecting previously unselected package c2esp:i386.
(Reading database ... 154646 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking c2esp:i386 (from c2esp_25c-1_i386.deb) ...
dpkg: error processing c2esp_25c-1_i386.deb (--install):
trying to overwrite '/usr/lib/cups/filter/command2esp', which is also in package printer-driver-c2esp 23-1
dpkg: error processing --force (--install):
cannot access archive: No such file or directory
Errors were encountered while processing:
c2esp_25c-1_i386.deb

It looks like I already have it, or something.

I clicked on "File" and then print as I was reading this page and all I get is "Print to File" but no printers. Is this what you mean?

I tried printing from Libre and it said stuff about a generic printer, but when all was said, nothing was done and I didn't even get a error message.

I double clicked on c2esp_18-4ubuntu1_amd64.deb and it said "Broken dependencies". It told me to run "gksudo synaptic" or "sudo apt-get install -f". One didn't work and the other hung the sytem and I had to reboot.

Back. It says, "You have 1 broken package on your system! Use the "Broken" filter to locate it. Should I be trying to download this via the package manager thingie?

c2esp_25c-1_i386.deb says the same thing about broken packages.

Open Synaptic package manager
Use it to fix broken packages

Only option I see is get the source
http://sourceforge.net/projects/cupsdri ... z/download

The install directions are here:
http://paste.ubuntu.com/1366736/

You will need the Mint base development packages for building from source. It will include things like : make, gcc and kernel source packages
You might want to start a new thread to ask about this

What and where is the Synaptic package manager?

Does this mean that I might be able to solve my problem with the Synaptic package manager all by itself?

"Only option I see is get the source
http://sourceforge.net/projects/cupsdri ... z/download"

Does the above quote imply that I have a broken system and that I need to reinstall it?

"You will need the Mint base development packages for building from source."

I don't know what the above means. Can't I just reinstall the normal dummy way if I have a broken system?

Package Manager should be in the main menu

The broken package is probably the one we were trying to install.

You can re-install, but it's not necessary and it certainly wont make the printer work.

When I first moved to using Linux full time, many many years ago, I had a printer that wasn't friendly.... I just moved it on and made sure I purchased something that actually works out of the box

From what I have read, it sounds like this kodak of yours should work (at least partially)

Back at openSUSE I could get someone to see if it would build on OBS, but I'm not sure what arrangements Mint has for this. So building it yourself from the source is an option I was pointing to, but it's no task for someone green to Linux.
