What type of monitor do you have (LCD or CRT), and what size (in inches)?

* press Ctrl + Alt + F1
* login with your user name and password
* type:

Code: Select all

sudo dpkg-reconfigure xorg xserver-xorg

* go through all the steps and when you get to the monitor settings make sure you select "easy" and chose your monitor size, that should do it.
* press Ctrl + Alt + Backspace (to restart the xserver), and hopefully it works, sometimes a reboot does the trick...
