"USB image writer" FAIL... Mint 14 xfcd --SOLVED--

Dear Forum,

This seems to be a very simple program.
It starts, sees the .iso file, sees the USB drive ( 8Gb in one FAT 32 partition ).
Thanks to the "Disks" program which is still working.

It says " The process ended with an error!"

Any suggestions?
I'm trying to load the Bodhi distro so I can try to run it from the USB pen drive.
Has anyone tried this program to see if it works on their machine ?
Any suggestions for a program that works?

Thanks.

Shortshift Frog.

It's always a good idea to check the .iso you downloaded to make sure it's not corrupt.
Now that you are having issues copying it to a usb drive, you should really check that file out to rule it out as a problem.

from the repositories install "gtkhash"
Open gtkhash to check the .iso file you downloaded, if it does not match the number on the website you downloaded it from, you'll need to re download it.
If the hash checks out, then we can look into some solutions

Really? When I run the USB image writer it tells me that the operation completed successfully, but when I look at the USB drive in GParted it gives me some invalid partition table error. It says something about it being a recursive partition. The disk shows up as unallocated space. I have tried this procedure multiple times and the same thing happens every time.

In a similar situation I used GParted to create a new partition table, it smoked the information on the drive but it also made the drive usable. Good Luck

Dear Forum,

I did the checksum on the .iso file containing the Bodhi distro and it checked out fine.
The USB image writer FAILED again.

I found a solution:
I downloaded unetbootin. It did the conversion and move to USB stick in about a minute.
No problem. So I guess there is nothing wrong with the hardware or stick.
I should have gone with that from the begining, but I wanted to see if the program packaged with Mint 14 worked.
It didn't.
I was trying to figure out how to use the dd command from terminal and getting nowhere.
I'll try the install tomorrow. Likely I will unload the USB image writer program if possible.
Glad to have something that works.

Now, how can I make this useful to other users?
Do I start a new thread with solution in the title?

Yours,

Shortshift Frog.

You should start off by editing the title of the thread and adding [solved] at the beginning this way people browsing the forum will see that the issue is solved and will read the thread to find the soloution. :D
