Hello, I am having an issue with linux mint 14 cinnamon 64bit. I have an asus gs74sx laptop. The issue is this: whenever i wake the computer up from hibernation or sleep mode, it is frozen on a whit and black zig zag patterned screen. sometimes i can get to terminal, but not always. this last time it said that my graphical interface had failed. it asked me if i wanted to see the logs and i said yes, but of course it was all meaningless to me.

next time it happens i will write down what it says, but i was hoping to get an idea of what to look for first.

a reboot has fixed the problem every time so far.

edit: just noticed something that might be related (if it is a graphics card issue or something): sometimes the text on screen, like the bookmark names in chrome, etc. are all scribbly looking until i hover a mouse over them, which then causes them to fix themselves.

edit 2. so this is what it says when it freezes and then switches to terminal: [DRM] nouveau failed to idle channel 1
PFIFO -playlist update failed
then it switches back to the black and white frozen screen requiring a reboot.

Nouveau should not be involved anymore, since you said in http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=128739 that you had the NVIDIA driver now.

awesome i just checked it and you are correct. still not entirely sure what happened. im guessing i had the wrong drivers, some sort of substitute drivers that worked well enough but weren't the best ones, and by installing that stuff from software manager it got fixed.

anyways thanks for the help!
