What do you think is wrong based on the following conditions

Post by GreenAce92 »

So this is what I was doing last:

Listening to a song located in an external hard disk drive
Creating webpage with BlueFish Editor
A few folders open
Chrome open browsing local pages (what I'm editing)

Suddenly, when starting a new song, the computer fails. Screen goes nuts, sound stops at a certain point and plays that same brief part over and over again. Restart is a must.

After about two to three restarts, I am able to do as much work as I can without crashes. How can that be explained?

I am running Linux Mint 13 Cinnamon

My computer is antiquated but I'm not doing THAT much.

Could it be too much RAM? I believe this motherboard only supports up to 1gB of DDR but I have two 1gb DDR's in. BIOS sees all of it however.

Any ideas?

It sounds to me that your Gateway is about to join your Acer in the graveyard.

I'm curious what version of Chrome are you using. The last one I use prior to "27.0.1453.93" always crashed my system.

This will probably eliminate chrome as suspect. If you can say up for extended period of time.

From terminal type "free" to find out how much memory is seen and in use.

Check your log files for any errors.
Can you get to a virtual terminal using Crtl+Alt+F1. If so type "dmesg".

Sometimes things happen. Sometimes they don't happen. If its not a recurring issue, i would says its not too much of an issue.

Well it happened again. I was working on GIMP, I had chrome open (not online again), had some folders open, (one accessing an external disk drive), I also had a song playing. I rotated an image in GIMP and that was when the computer froze, screen went black, came back on again, screen displayed multiple vertical lines with a grey background.

Restart, all is fine again.

I did the "free" it shows that I have over 2 million of which only 700,000 approximately is used leaving me with approximately 1, 300, 000 free.

I did what you asked, ctrl + alt + f1, I was taken to a full screen terminal, logged in as su, typed in dsmeg, and there was a huge list.

I took a photo of what I could see. Sorry for the flash, seems noobish but this is the most legible photo.
Thank you Nokia Lumia 920

Apparently you have eCryptfs enabled. Its giving errors. I con't have Also lost of ethernet . It complains of intel ring:

Code: Select all

[ 15.835258] intel_rng: Firmware space is locked read-only. If you can't or
[ 15.835262] intel_rng: don't want to disable this in firmware setup, and if
[ 15.835264] intel_rng: you are certain that your system has a functional
[ 15.835267] intel_rng: RNG, try using the 'no_fwh_detect' option.
Someone else report a crash with that intel rng. What is that? Some controller?

If you search eCryptfs, you might find some help. I never encrypt my file system.

If you run the livecd for a period of time, does it too crash? Try it. If not then maybe think of a re-install without the eCryptfs enabled.
