Why do I keep running low on rootfs space (wubi install)!

Post by elfaure » Wed Jul 17, 2013 10:34 pm

Can someone please help me understand the linux file system root size vs the wubi size vs the home directory size. I keep running out of space with 30GB wubis. My home dir is only 10GB. But my rootfs keeps maxing out. Here is the output of "df -H". For a wubi, there are no logical volume groups. Command "vgdisplay" shows no volume groups (assume this only applies to a partioned install.

Why do I keep running out of room??

$ df -H
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/loop0 21G 20G 488k 100% /
none 4.1k 0 4.1k 0% /sys/fs/cgroup
udev 2.1G 4.1k 2.1G 1% /dev
tmpfs 415M 1.1M 414M 1% /run
none 5.3M 0 5.3M 0% /run/lock
none 2.1G 234k 2.1G 1% /run/shm
none 105M 62k 105M 1% /run/user
/dev/sdb1 1.1T 894G 108G 90% /host
/dev/sda2 80G 57G 24G 72% /media/elfaure/4610063E10063609
$ su
linuxmint elfaure # vgdisplay
No volume groups found

eww, yuck, lol. Most avoid WUBI, except developers who seem to love playing with it. Why do you think you are running out of space? Maybe instead you are running out of RAM available? I know when I've run virtual systems which needed more RAM than the system could provide it would seem there was a lack of space but it was really a lack of RAM available for the virtual system.
