taskbar calendar

is there any software that would allow me to add important events/reminders/birthdays to the taskbar calendar??

if no then why not?

I might be mistaken, but I think Evolution is integrated with the GNOME calender. You can also take a look at Orage, but I have never used it, so I can't really say how it works.

MagnusB is correct in saying that Evolution supports this feature. But you need to install Evolution and a full set of dependencies to Mint.

Alternatively, you may think of installing the Lightning add-on to Thunderbird, which will add some planning/scheduling functionality to Thunderbird.
